Where to start?

If you like many other new and existing businesses are thinking of having your own website and have no idea of where to start, here are a few pointers for first timers.

Have a look at magazines, tv ads and shop window displays for ideas, have a good look around the web at other websites, especially websites in the same field as you. Look at the colours, functions and the overall feel of the site.

Ask yourself questions like, does this site look trustworthy? Can I get around the site easily? Is all the information on the site clear?

Now you have an idea of what you want your website to look like think about what you want on your site. What do you want people to see and read when they come to your site? Pictures and text (called ‘copy’) are important and should be thought about carefully. Ensure you have an idea of what you want even if you can’t supply it yourself, we can get professional copy written for your website.

Pictures can pose more of a problem, there are laws regarding copyright which must be adjured to. The pictures on your site must be owned by you or you must have a license to use the images on a commercial site (a site selling or promoting a business). Some public domain images have this license, please check before submitting any images. Image quality is another factor which must be taken into account, images should be clear and of high resolution. Please ask if you’re unsure, we can supply professional images for your website.

The functionality of your site should depend on the type of business you run. You might want to sell your own down-loadable content using eCommerce on your site. You may need people to contact each other or chat live, maybe you require a online club with members who can fill in forms and join online. Alternatively, you might have a library of videos on YouTube or Vimeo that you want to display on your site. These functions will need to be added to your website, we can help you define the functionality of your website during your initial assessment.

Hardcopy text can be converted at an extra cost.

Images

Images can be provided in digital format on CD-Rom, DVD or eMail (by arrangement). We request that you supply these in JPEG, GIF, BMP or PSD formats. Please note that all images provided should be obtained from an original source or with written permission for usage from the owner. The Graphic Ninjas can arrange for the supply professional images for use on your website please ask for details.
Hardcopy photos and pictures can be converted at an extra cost.

Video Footage

Video Footage can be supplied in digital format on CD-Rom, DVD or eMail (by arrangement). We request that you supply these in AVI, MPEG or MOV formats. Please note that all video footage provided should be obtained from an original source or with written permission for usage from the owner. The Graphic Ninjas can arrange for the supply of professional high quality video for use on your website please ask for details.
Video can be converted at an extra cost, please provide details of current video format.

Sound

Sound must be provided in digital format on CD-Rom, DVD or eMail (by arrangement). We request that you supply these in WAV or MP3 formats. Please note that all sound files and tracks provided should be obtained from an original source or with written permission for usage from the owner. The Graphic Ninjas can arrange for the supply of professional high quality sounds and original tracks for use on your website please ask for details.
Sound can be converted at an extra cost and must be supplied on Audio Tape, Mini Disk, CD or Vinyl.
